Before you
select your photographer, make sure you look through the photographer’s wedding
albums. Some photographers do not like to take staged or posed photos and would
rather capture the artistic style. If you would rather have more candid shots,
you may want to look at photographers with a news or journalistic background.
Talk to your photographer and make sure that you
have similar tastes and visions as to what you want from your photographer and
memories from your Big Day. Remember, the only thing that you will have to look
back on is your photos, so make sure you are comfortable with your photographer
and confident in their ability to capture the memories you want.
Ask your photographer if you can keep the
proofs/negatives from the pictures that he takes.
As with all of
your vendors, make sure you get everything in writing and find out what the
refund clauses are. Also, it is a good idea to pay with your credit card just
in case you have any issues the credit card company can help you.
Find out if your photographer will be doing any
other weddings that day. Most photographers only book one wedding per day as
they need to allow ample travel time, time to set up their equipment, and be
able to give you their undivided attention by taking pictures of the entire day
and evening. You don’t want a photographer that is rushed and who keeps
checking their watch.
Find out how
soon after the wedding you can view your proofs.
Pick your
favorite wedding shot and send it as a thank you card or even send it with your
Holiday Wishes.
