Bridal Attire

Remember that you are not just buying a dress, but all the accessories that go with it.  Make sure you budget for shoes, veil, tiara, purse, earrings, necklace, bracelet, gloves, garter belt, lingerie, under garments, bras, and alterations!

On the day of your wedding, make sure that there is not any stain causing food or drink in the room that you are getting ready in.

Slip into your dress after you are completely ready from head to toe and ready to walk down the aisle.  For example, you don’t want to have the dress on and then put your make-up on.  For one the dress will get wrinkled from sitting and secondly the dusty make-up particles could get on your dress.

Break in your wedding shoes at least 2 weeks before the wedding.  This will help scuff up the bottoms of the shoes so that you do not slip.  Also, this will help to ensure that the shoes are comfortable and will not cause blisters.  You don’t want to be miserable in your wedding shoes all night!

Bring a pair of flip flops or slippers to change into just in case your dancing feet get tired.

Help the bridesmaids and groomsmen save some money by letting them pick out their own shoes.  They will be more comfortable and they will be able to use the shoes again.  Normally the bridesmaid’s dresses are long enough to cover their feet so that nobody will notice if their shoes are different as long as they are all the same color.

Don’t forget to take your shoes with you when you have your dress altered as well as the under garments that you will be wearing with it.  This is EXTREMELY important so that the seamstress knows where to place the hem in accordance with the height of your heel and how much to take in.

If your dress has a train, take in to consideration the way that it will be bustled.  Talk to your seamstress about the different options on how she can gather the dress and bustle it.  Take someone with you for your last fitting so that they can see how your dress needs to be bustled, as you won’t be able to do this all by yourself!

Make sure you pack an emergency kit on your wedding day for any unforeseen accidents.  Pack a bag that contains band aids, deodorant, safety pins, bobby pins, hair spray, make-up, nail polish (in case you need to touch anything up), clear nail polish to stop a run in your hose, an extra pair of pantyhose, toothpaste, tooth brush, mouth wash, feminine hygiene products, shaving cream, razor, perfume, body spray, snacks (nothing that will stain your dress), steamer or iron, needle, thread, and aspirin.

A fun way to get the single bridesmaids involved is to have them sign the bottom of your wedding shoe.  The bridesmaid’s name that wears off first is the next to get married!  Make sure to check the bottom of your shoe at the end of the night!

Remind your bridesmaid before the ceremony starts to straighten your train and veil once you reach the end of the alter so that it falls evenly.
